Children most certainly are our hope for the future, so when Mike Sewell wanted to attempt to run 20 Comrades Marathons in 20 days to raise funds for CHOC in 2022, we were excited to offer support and make a donation!
CHOC is a non-profit that advocates for the health and well-being of children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders and their families.
CHOC aims to save lives through early detection and comprehensive support programmes for the families affected by cancer.
Unfortunately, Mike was struck by a car on day 4 of this challenge. People talk about the true spirit of the Comrades Marathon being camaraderie, selflessness, dedication, perseverance, and ubuntu – well, it is! The running community rallied together to get the challenge done. The target, 1800km’s. Collectively they smashed out 2037km’s in a few short days for a truly humbling cause, and Mike managed to raise a total of R323,000, which he personally distributed to the various CHOC recipients.
